Fakery Fiction
I start with the eyes...I find them or rather they find me so that when they are looking back I know someone is there.
The rest is a kind of dressing up...a story telling , stretching the paint to stretch the truth.
Sometimes an image is a starting point. I am drawn to images that are charged with a challenge, a kind of contradiction between viewer, maker and holder of the gaze. We are drawn to perfection, to glamour and ideals that are not ours to have. Few of us exist in the worlds we get fed in photographs.
Then the paint takes me towards fictions beyond the photograph so that a new vision is born.
A fiction that breaks the cycle...a code cracking of sorts that says I know what you want but I've made my own rules....and even made fun of it.
